Year of Food and Farming.

Posted by TopVeg - July 5th, 2007

TopVeg is proud to be taking part in the Year of Food and Farming which runs from September 2007 to July 2008.

The Year of Food and Farming is a campaign to promote healthy living by giving young people direct experience of countryside, farming and food. During the Year, children will have the opportunity to:

  • follow the story from ‘field to fork’
  • explore the importance of food

Growing your own vegetables in the garden, a container or on an allotment is the first step to helping young people understand where our fruit and vegetables come from. They will learn to appreciate the taste of fresh produce. Many school gardening clubs are demonstrating how this is done.

TopVeg, along with farming friends, is providing downloadable growing cards, with step by step instructions for growing lettuce, beetroot, radish and garlic.
