Favourite Herb Poll - HerbDay2007
TopVeg have started a Favourite Herb Poll which is in the left hand margin of this web-page. There are ten of the commonest herbs listed, (parsley, chives, bay, rosemary, tarragon, oregano, mint, thyme, basil, sage) so please vote to show which is your favourite.
It would be interesting to know why you have voted for a particular herb. Is it because you like the way it grows, or find it invaluable in the kitchen? Click on the comment link below & let us know.
HerbDay 2007 is on Saturday 13 October, and we are running a series of posts about herbs before then. The Poll will be finalised on that day.

I voted for mint as I love the way it grows and grows. I also love mint sauce with lamb and yorkshire puddings!

It is invidious to pick a favourite from such a good list - and the ones not on the list. But I think it has to be thyme, which, to my mind, tastes of sunshine as no other herb. Except of course rosemary oregano blah blah blah I could go on for hours

I voted for rosemary. I love the way it flavors chicken, potatoes, gratins, and well just about everything, ha. I also like the way my rosemary is a huge bush shape and although it dies back some in the winter there’s almost always a little I can pick. It even has pretty little flowers although I always assume I should have pinched it back rather that let it flower. My rosemary started with one sprig I rooted in water about 10 years ago and is now the size of a good sized shrub bush. I guess I’ve made it pretty clear that I like rosemary but I like many herbs and have grown all the ones on your list except for bay.

Thank you for your comments. It is lovely to hear how you all feel about herbs. I have never tried Yorkshire Pud with mint sauce! I think I will always think of the sunshibe when I use thyme from now on! I marvel at the ability of a tiny Rosemary twig producing a bush that goes on for 10 years! Thank you all, again

I looked for your list, but can’t find the 10 most common…bet I could guess, though. Cilantro probably isn’t on the list, but my favorite.

Hi Meg
Sorry you could not find the list, which is actually the poll in the left margin. I will try to improve the layout.
I have not come across Cilantro, can you tell us more??
Thanks for visiting

I voted for parsley because I like the flavour. I remember eating it while ‘helping’ my Grandfather in his garden many (many) years ago, so it is a good memory taste.
Cilantro is the American terem for coriander leaf.
