Basil Watering - HerbDay 2007
This pot of Basil is sitting on the kitchen window sill, and providing an abundant supply of basil leaves.
The secret to a long life for Basil, seems to be watering from the bottom of the pot. This means just putting the water into the plate that the pot is standing on, so that the roots in the pot can draw the water up. Basil soon dies if it is over-watered when in a pot.

I really do not have problem with over watering. My Basil seems to suck up the moisture fast.
Your Basil looks great.

Hi Curtis
Watering is a problem - particularly when the plant looks so healthy. It is easy to think it can cope with whatever you throw at it - and then it is gone!

Thank you for your kind comment on my blog.
Although I live in Provence, I have problems keeping a basil pot alive. Quite recently, I’ve heard something interesting. It is not the quantity of water that matters, but the time of watering. Basil should be watered in the morning, not in the evening. It cannot stand to have his feet in the water all night long.

Difficult to believe that Basil does not thrive in Provence! Thank you for the tip on time of watering - very useful.
