Broad beans and peas directly into the ground to overwinter.
Plant garlic and onion sets.
Continue planting spring cabbage and spring green plants. Plant up winter lettuce under cloches.
Harvest:
Lift carrots, beetroot, potatoes and winter radish and put into store.
Cabbage, sprouts, kale, celariac, Jerusalem artichokes and parsnips can be left in the ground and harvested as needed.
Pick haricot, flageolet and borlotti beans, and leave to dry in a cool shed before shelling them to store.
Other jobs:
Clear all beds of crop residues when the crop is finished. Fork the ground and remove the weeds.
Add farm yard manure, mushroom compost or soil improver to empty beds and fork in.
Earth up leeks and celery.
Lift mature clumps of rhubarb, and pull apart to fist-size pieces. Plant these 1 meter apart in well manured soil. Only do part of the rhubarb patch, leaving some to use next year.
