Green Thumb Sunday - Apple Day
21st October 2007 is Apple Day. Apple Day is an annual celebration of the apple, orchards and local distinctiveness.
Each locality has its own special varieties of apples, with a particular flavour and texture. Apple day reminds us how special these apples are. It is up to us all to nurture the apples in our own gardens.
Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information

Hi Top veg,
I plan to go to one of these events in the coming week, not been to one before but i beleive you come across some lovely apples with great names.
The acorns should be OK as we have a special train that goes up and down the line blasting the rails with hi-pressure water jets.
Still the snow could cause a problem….lol
Cheers Mark

Hi Top Veg, What an interesting post. I always try and buy English apples they are so tasty. I have two apple trees. Last year we got loads of apples and I ended up juicing a lot of them - they tasted lovely. This year we only have about 10 on both trees. I don’t know why. Let’s hope next year is a better year. Nice photo of apples. I have one Red Delicious every day. They can’t grow here, not enough chill hours, bur in the higher elevations in Arizona they do quite well.
