Winter Salads in the Vegetable Garden.
Winter salads are excellent value, especially oriental varieties. They can be grown outside in the vegetable garden.
This patch of Mustard - variety Mizuna - is doing well in Yorkshire. The center leaves are cut out with scissors, & provide fresh winter salad leaves with a bite!
The winter radish will keep growing all winter, and end up as big as carrots. The radish in the photo are a variety called Chinese Mantanghong. They can be eaten raw, chopped up in salads, or cooked.
Spring Onions are easy to grow in the vegetable garden for winter salads. Sown in late June, Guardsman crops well and is fully hardy.
