John Oldham - Gardener & TopVeg Consultant.

Posted by TopVeg - November 27th, 2007

John-OldhamJohn Oldham, an experienced gardener, has come on board as a TopVeg Consultant.
John and his wife Barbara, created a garden at The White Cottage Halsham, which was open under the National Garden Scheme during a 30-year period. Starting in 1973 they transformed a wilderness into a wonderful garden where they were also self sufficient in herbs and vegetables.

As a veterinary surgeon specialising in pigs, John practised in Yorkshire but also travelled the world advising pig farmers. He believes that plants and animals tell us what they require, if only we are prepared to listen, & that gardening is about providing plants with those needs.

John has developed an interest in unusual vegetables. He has already posted an article about Florence Fennel, and promises many more. They will be easily found in the Unusual Vegetable category.

John and Barbara were founder members of the South Holderness Gardening Club in 1996. John was founding Chairman and is now honorary life President. The club currently has about 150 members.

TopVeg is pleased to welcome John Oldham on board, and looks forward to receiving more articles on growing unusual vegetables in the garden!
