How to Sow F1 Hybrid Cabbage Seed in 10 steps

Posted by TopVeg - February 24th, 2008

F1 Hybrid cabbage seeds are very expensive per seed, so these ten steps on how to sow will avoid wastage of seed because they will not have to be thinned out, and each plant will be able to grow fat & stubby, so that it is easy to transplant.
1. Read the instructions on the back of the packet.

2. Rake the soil to create a seed bed with a crumb structure

3. Firm the soil down by gently tapping the rake on the soil

4. Draw a groove along the row, 12mm deep, with a spade or hoe. Keep it straight by guiding it along the walking board

5. Empty a few seeds from the packet into the hand. Only take a few, so that they do not blow away, or drop & get lost

6. Place individual seeds carefully in their planting station - using the tape, or marks on the walking board to give the correct distance between the seeds, about 12 cm

7. Pull the soil gently over the seeds with the rake, so the seeds are covered

8. Firm the soil down, by gently tapping the back of the rake down. Leave some crumbs on top, so that the soil does not cap

9. Water the seeds in
