Broad Bean, variety Express, Harvest

The Broad Beans, variety Express, planted at the end of February, are ready to harvest. The beans inside the pods are swelling and showing their shape.

The beans are shelled (taken out of the pod) before cooking. Some people eat the young pods, but we prefer to add it to the compost heap!

The Broad Bean, variety Express, is the fastest maturing variety of all the broad beans. This has taken 20 weeks to reach maturity. the average time for broad beans to reach harvest is 26 weeks, according to our planting chart.
