Planting Out Leeks

The leeks sown in the nursery bed, have reached pencil size, so ready for planting out.

First the leeks are trimmed at the top (leaves) and the bottom (roots).

Using the walking board (to prevent soil compaction) and the measuring stick, the leeks are dropped into evenly spaced holes.

In part of the bed, we made a trench before making the holes, hoping that this will make earthing up easier.

There are two varieties of leeks in the bed:

Planting out the leek bed can take some time, but the leeks provide fresh vegetables throughout the winter.
