Courgettes do well when planted on raised mounds of open, fibrous material, such as compost, leaf mould or strawy manure dug into the soil to keep it open.

Courgette plants do not like to be over-watered when first planted.

When the plants start to flower, the water must be applied to the base of the plant, not the leaves.
