5 tips for combating slugs

5 tips for combating slugs after a wet summer:

  1. Monitor - check for slugs in the garden every day
  2. Cultivate - aggressive cultivation, like digging or rotovating the garden soil, kills slugs & blocks their movements
  3. Prepare good seedbed - a fine, well consolidated seedbed is not a good home for slugs
  4. Sow seeds deeper - sowing at 4cm rather than 2 or 3cm makes it harder for slugs to attack germinating vegetable plants
  5. Put out slug traps to catch the slugs & pick them off when seen
