A lot of people want to grow potatoes, but think it is impossible because they have not got a big garden, can plant the potatoes in containers.
Thompson & Morgan have an easy solution with their patio planters collection.
The green, woven-plastic container will fit on a porch, verandah, or patio. The container is big enough to grow 4 or 5 seed potatoes, and can be used over and over again. So it would be exciting to plant a second crop when the first ones have been harvested, to give some new potatoes at Christmas.

I’ve successfully grown potatoes in large pots in my front garden. It’s not unusual to get a kilo (2.2 pounds) from a pot started with a single seed potato. I harvested 14 kilos from 13 pots last year.
It does get to be a pain watering them daily once they start to get big, but I think they’re nice looking plants.

Hello front garden food
Many thanks for your comment – interesting to see how productive your potatoes are in pots. I agree that they look nice too – all that lush foliage – with the bonus of the odd potato flower.
