Bracket Fungus kills Ash Tree

The bracket fungus on the Ash Tree, (reported last year), has killed so much of the tree that it was unsafe and had to be felled.

Sunbathing Butterflies in the Vegetable Garden

The vegetable garden is full of wild life, including sunbathing butterflies. They have discovered that the roof of the bird table catches the sun in the morning. The butterflies gather on the warm wood, and spread out their wings. Click the image below to enlarge it.

The Red Admiral and Peacock butterflies sunbathe more than the cabbage whites in the vegetable garden!

Peacock butterfly - Inachis io

The Peacock butterfly’s wings are reddish-brown on top and have the typical peacock “false eye” marking. The underside of the wing is darkish brown.

Red Admiral Butterfly - Vanessa atalanta

The Red Admiral (Latin name - Vanessa atalanta) is a dark brown/black colour with orange bands and white markings.

The Red Admiral butterflies love to visit Buddleia, which is known as the butterfly bush.

Understanding the Wife

This was posted by zoso on the River Cottage Forum under the heading: ‘Understanding the Wife’!

Have got 25 tomato plants growing away nicely and about 40 Little gem lettuce. Looked in the fridge for some milk to make a brew after coming home from work see an iceberg lettuce and a punnet of cherry tomatoes, when asked why she had bought them i got the answer
‘ they were on offer’ Hello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
