They were purchased as “waiting bed plants” from the continent. They are designed to give the maximum yield in the first year, and to crop in 60 days after planting.
”Waiting bed plants” are an expensive option, but a heavy crop in 60 days will help the cash flow!
The Sonata Table Top Strawberries are available for Pick Your Own at Skylark Farm, near York.
Look out for table top vegetables – the new way to grow veg! Peace Tree Farm in the USA are developing a miniature tomato plant called Sweet-N-Neat.
This tomato has been propagated to be tabletop size and is laden with heavy fruit, so the tomatoes can be plucked off for eating. It keeps on producing so can sit on the table for general grazing!
Sweet-N-Neat grows in traditional Christmas colours with its red fruit and dark green foliage. Lets hope this table top vegetable will be on general release for next year!

The strawberry variety nearest the camera is Darsilette. This is an
early variety. The other variety, Darselect, is a mid-season, main-crop
strawberry.
The cold-stored strawberry plants arrived with good roots and crowns,
but no leaves. As soon as they were planted into warm, moist peat they
started to produce leaves. They have been kept moist and sprayed with
soluble feed. In the six weeks they have been growing they have been
de-flowered twice. They should produce a 60-70% yield next season.
